Oak Extension that Delivers the Wow Factor

Stuart McCutchen and his partner purchased a dilapidated bungalow in 2018 and set about demolishing it and creating their dream home. In late 2022, they finally finished – with a solid oak extension at the rear that really added the final wow factor.

“When we purchased the land, we always had the idea to add an oak rear extension,” Stuart said. After navigating the planning permission process, Stuart developed architectural plans. “At this point, we needed someone we could trust to bring it to life.” 

Stuart contacted Oakmasters and immediately got to work with designer Val. His ideas were transferred to the page and soon became firm plans. Ed and the Oakmasters craftspeople sourced exceptional quality wood, shaping it to the precise dimensions required. 

Stuart worked with his own contractors to build the structure. “We had a clear line of communication between the fitters and the workshop.” This proved crucial when the joiners had questions. “Everyone we spoke to was helpful. They would call you back that day rather than making us wait weeks for a reply.”

The structure was built quickly, and the excellent instructions made the fitters’ job simple. The completed structure is a warm and welcoming space that sets this house apart from others. “It’s such a beautiful addition to the home,” Stuart said.

Building the property was a passion project for Stuart and his wife, who chose to invest in quality at every stage. “We had an estate agent around to value the house before Christmas. He said the extension truly gives the house the wow factor,” Stuart said. “It’s the feature that will sell the house.”

Stuart has caught the bug for self-building and is planning a potential new project. “If we do, we’ll certainly be looking to work with Oakmasters to provide that extra special addition to any new home.”
